Blue Liberite

The properties of blue liberite

The blue liberite stone has no legends or myths about it.

In 1964, this stone was described and discovered by a man named Chao in the Hsianghua Ridge mine located in Hunan, China.

Its name is composed of several particles related to the elements that make it up:

-Li: abbreviation for lithium silicate. Its particularity is that it crystallizes in the orthorhombic system;

-Be: abbreviation for beryllium silicate. Beryllium is a rare element found in gemstones such as aquamarine, beryl, and emerald. Silicates are primarily minerals;

-Ite (like îtes in ancient Greek): which means mineral.

Liberite also contains silicon and oxygen. It occurs as an aggregate composed of several minerals such as hsianghualite (a silicate) and bromelite (an oxide). It is, in fact, a heterogeneous assemblage of these elements, which are strongly bonded together. Together, they form a type of mica called phlogopite (a mineral belonging to the silicate group).

For your information, silicates belong to the largest mineral family: that of feldspars, quartz, pyroxene, etc. They are the primary constituents of igneous and metamorphic rocks. Furthermore, the majority of minerals found on Earth are actually oxides, which are also very widespread throughout the universe.

It is classified among the new stones, despite being primarily a mineral. Indeed, it is highly likely that it existed long before its discovery. But it is human nature to name things in order to acknowledge their existence.

The main deposits are located in South Africa.
